GREENBOOK TRAINING

GreenBook training events aim to build enduring capacity in all spheres of government (and beyond) to proactively adapt South African settlements to the impacts of hydro-meteorological hazards. Mainstreaming climate change adaptation into sector plans and policies are critical to build resilience, and reduce the exposure of people, infrastructure, buildings, and the environment to the long-term impacts of climate change and severe weather events.

The online GreenBook training course raises awareness of the need to intervene and invest in the adaptation of South African settlements, and provide the tools to support building more sustainable, resilient and hazard-resistant settlements. The course presents the scientific evidence found in the National Overview and Risk Profile Tool on climate change, risks and vulnerabilities, as well as the Adaptation Action Tool and the need for mainstreaming adaptation actions in plans and policies. The course is relevant to the functions of disaster risk reduction, urban planning, environmental management, human settlements, integrated development planning (IDP), climate change response planning, roads and transport, and utilities and services.
